Option one: the giant block. Somebody books Monday 7 a.m. to Thursday 5 p.m. It looks tidy and it is a lie — the crew is not on site for 82 continuous hours. Modelling a project as linked visits
Create the project as a job record — customer, address, scope, contract value, deposit, photo set, access notes. That record lives for the duration and survives every schedule change.

Schedule the gate, not just the work. If material must be on site before install day, the delivery gets its own dated entry with an owner. A dependency nobody scheduled is one discovered on the morning it fails. If it can stop the crew — delivery, inspection, permit, utility — it belongs on the calendar.
Put the gating condition in the day's label. "Day 3 — rebuild, only if moisture readings clear" tells whoever does Wednesday's dispatch that Thursday is provisional. Silent provisional days are how a crew shows up to a job that is not ready.
This is where job readiness stops being a nice-to-have. On a service call, arriving without the part costs a return trip. On day three it costs a crew-day.
What to tell the customer on day one versus day three
Customers on multi-day jobs live through something service-call customers never do: a period where their home is worse than when you started. Floor up, roof open, fans running. This is where trust is won or lost, and it is almost entirely a communication problem.
Before day one, confirm the plan as a whole — which days, what happens each day, the finish date, and what they need to do. The most valuable sentence you send warns them how bad day two looks.
On each day, send a normal arrival window and an en-route text. The arrival time window matters more here, because the customer is rearranging four days around you instead of one afternoon.
At the end of each day, send a short status note with a photo or two. "Tear-off is complete and the roof is dried in, shingles start in the morning" converts anxiety into confidence for one text.
When something changes, say so immediately and give a new finish date, not a vague apology. Customers forgive delays. They do not forgive discovering one themselves on day four.

Weather, material delays, and moving the whole tail
The defining failure mode is the partial reschedule. It rains on day two. Somebody pushes day two to Friday and leaves days three and four where they were. Enforce it as policy: when a project day moves, every remaining day moves with it. Shoot the pre-existing condition before anyone touches anything. Shoot each phase as it completes — subfloor before flooring, dry-in before shingles, rough-in before close-up. Shoot anything unexpected the moment you find it. Then shoot the finished work.
